Yesterday was our second volunteer day! It was a gorgeous day that was perfect for gardening, and garden we did! Our volunteers were from a range of organizations including Black Student Union, Real Food Hopkins, Hopkins Farm Hands and the Graduate Environmental Network. Our accomplishments:
We re-surveyed the land, and now have have 53 5’x8′ plots as well as one large, 22’x50′ plot for potential cooperative planting.
We dug up a trench and planted some garlic.
We built a compost system!
For next week’s volunteer day, we hope to nail chicken wire to the
compost system, plant perennials, rip up some sod for the beds, start
building beds if we have lumber.
What we’ll need: more hands, tools (hoes, shovels, nails, drills,
screws, hammers), manure and spirit for adventure!
